HSRI was founded in 1963. It is one of China’s earliest and largest comprehensive semiconductor research institutes, provided with strong technical strength and highly integrated specialization. The main research areas include: microelectronics, optoelectronics, and micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS). It is also a master and doctor degree-conferring unit.

     There are more than 1400 employees in HSRI and 1000 of them are technical staffs, which include 51 professors, 300 associate professors and 350 engineers.

     HSRI continues to serve customers with semiconductor materials, semiconductor instruments&equipment, chips and applications. It was awarded ISO 9001Quality Management System Certificate in 1999, and passed ISO9001-2000 Version Certification in 2002. Furthermore, it has been authorized AAA credit by banking systems.

     HSRI has long been carrying out an extensive long-term academic exchanges and technical cooperations with universities, institutes and enterprises in China and abroad. Close relationships have been made between HSRI and a number of world top universities and companies in semiconductor technological fields. Specialists from all over the world are invited to give academic lectures every year.
